University policies
Yukon University’s institutional values include “Northern Identity”, “Inclusiveness and Diversity”, and “Integrity and Academic Freedom.”
The write-up under “Integrity and Academic Freedom” reads: “Integrity, fairness and ethical behaviour guide all that we do. We provide honest and balanced assessments of the issues related to our institution. We believe in and promote academic freedom, research integrity and scholarly responsibility.”
In a policy document titled “Use of College Resources”, under “Facility Rental,” it says “Preference will be given to events which are deemed relevant and beneficial to the College.”
Yukon University’s Student Rights and Responsibilities contains an anti-disruption policy:
Subject to availability of the College’s resources, you have the RIGHT to participate unhindered in the academic, intellectual, cultural and social life of the College. You have the RESPONSIBILITY to respect the rights of others to the same participation by refraining from actions that threaten or disrupt classes, meetings, events or other academic activities, or that prevent others from freely expressing their views.
Yukon University does not engage in ideological advocacy by way of a diversity office or similar body.
University practices
The authors are not aware of any cases of the University censoring students or campus clubs because of the content of their expression.
Student union practices
The authors are not aware of the Yukon University Student Union (formerly the Yukon College Student Union) discriminating against a campus group or club based on its views or opinions.
Student union policies
The Yukon University Students Union does not have its own website independent of the university.
On the Yukon University “Student Union” webpage, it is stated:
The objectives of the Union are to provide leadership and direction for student affairs. We aim at furthering the best interests of the students and the University through student representation in matters affecting student life and affairs and to represent the student body. We promote academic, cultural, environmental, social, and athletic activities beneficial to the student body and the community; and we provide positive relations between students, administration, faculty, and staff of Yukon University and its network of community campuses.
In the 2018–19 financial year,* Yukon University received $26,618,839 in taxpayer dollars in the form of government grants. These taxpayer funds accounted for 52.5% of their annual revenue.
